Fix a leak 32 oz.

Our main product for pool leaks.

Fix A Leak is a blended-concentrated material designed to seal minor leaks in swimming pools, losing up to 1 inch in a 24 hour period. Fix A Leak is effective for leaks up to 1/8 inch in diameter. One 32 oz. size bottle is good for 22,000 gallons (100,000 liters.)

The product is used mainly for leaks in the plumbing where you must provide the circulation for the product to get to the location of the leak. It is the pressure that will force the product through the leak in the pipe.

Fix A Leak can be effective for hairline crack leaks on the floor of a concrete or gunite pool. The product is heavier than water and will eventually settle to the bottom of the pool.

Fix a leak can be used for pinhole leaks in inground vinyl liner pools.

The longevity of the seal will depend on the amount of foot traffic that may occur on the bottom of the pool.

Fix A Leak in most cases will form a long-lasting seal.

Return Line Leaks

Return line leaks are detectable by an increase in water loss while the pump is in operation. You may still notice a loss of water while the pump is inactive but at a reduced amount. Return line leaks are one of the most common leaks to have in a swimming pool.

Return line Leak instructions

  1. Determine water loss in a 24-hour period.

  2. Immerse bottle in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Shake well before use.

  3. Fill the pool to the original level and mark the water line.

  4. Bypass the filter before adding Fix A Leak.

    Sand Filter: Set to recirculate.

    Cartridge Filter: Remove.

DE: Remove elements from tank, then proceed to run through the empty tank.

  5. With the pump running add Fix A Leak slowly into the skimmer or in front of any suction intake.

  6. After adding the Fix A Leak adjust suction to main drain. If this is not possible stir the bottom of the pool every 2-3 hours with a pool broom or with a robotic cleaner (ensure the removal of the filter from the cleaner.) This is necessary to keep the product in suspension.

  7. Continue to recirculate for 8-10 hours. Then shut off the pool pump, this will allow the product to settle to the bottom, if any leakage is occurring gravity will then draw the product into the leak.

  8. The next day check the water level to determine if the leak has stopped. If the water level is holding turn off the pool pump for 48 hours to allow the product time to settle and cure. After the 48 hours vacuum out the Fix A Leak residue either straight to waste or into the filter to backwash out. In regards to a cartridge filter remove and do not allow it to dry. Spray clean with water between the pleats.

Note:

If after the first day the leak has slowed but not completely sealed, an additional 32 oz. bottle of Fix A Leak can be used. Continue on day two from Step 4.

Suction Side Leaks

Suction Leaks are detectable when air bubbles can be seen coming out of the jet fittings. In most cases suction lines only leak water when the filter pump is not in operation.

Closed Loop Suction Side Repair

This repair requires temporary plumbing.

Additional equipment required: Submersible pump and a drum or large container.

  1. Determine water loss in a 24-hour period.

  2. Immerse bottle in hot water for 15 minutes. Shake well before use.

  3. Place the submersible pump unto the container. Disconnect the problem skimmer or drain line at the pool pump.

  4. Temporary plumbing is required from the submersible pump into the skimmer/drain line that was disconnected. Additional temporary plumbing is required from the skimmer/drain back into the container. This is a closed loop system. The product will be pumping from the container through the problem line back into the container.

  5. Fill the container with water and circulate for an hour to determine loss of water. This will show an approximation of the severity of the leak.

  6. Once water loss has been determined fill the container back up and mark the water line. Add the 32 oz. bottle of Fix A Leak.

  7. Circulate the product for 4-6 hours or until the leak has stopped.

  8. Once the leak has stopped allow at least 72 hours for the product to cure.

  9. Flush the lines by emptying the container of the Fix A Leak mixture and running fresh water through.

  10. Reconnect the plumbing lines back to the pool pump and return to normal operation.

Suction side repair

This repair does not require plumbing modifications.

This method will only work if the leak is on the bottom portion of the line.

  1. Determine water loss in a 24-hour period.

  2. Immerse bottle in hot water for 15 minutes. Shake well before use.

  3. With the pump off, pour half of the 32 oz. bottle of Fix A Leak into the skimmer.

  4. Turn the pump on for two seconds to move the product into the line without blowing it back into the pool.

  5. With the pump off, pour the remainder of the Fix A Leak into the skimmer and allow it to sit for three days.

Structure and Fitting Leaks

This repair is for return fittings, lights, skimmer, steps, small structural cracks.

This method requires the use of a dye test to perceive the location of the leak.

  1. Determine water loss in a 24-hour period.

  2. Immerse bottle in hot water for 15 minutes. Shake well before use.

  3. Shut down the pump.

  4. Apply Fix A Leak directly to the leak using a squeeze bottle.

  5. Allow a minimum of 48 hours to cure before starting up circulation.
